Module 2: Deepening Understanding and Pedagogical Practice
In the second intensive training, teachers build on the experiences and challenges of implementing new methods from the first module, while deepening their understanding of the logic and design of the PSA materials. They study Transition to Agriculture, which continues the focus on integrating subjects and strengthening language development, and To Describe the World, which allows them to design and practice purposeful lessons. Alongside these, they explore DSA Education, which guides them to reflect more deeply on the aims of education, the difference between understanding concepts and merely transmitting information, the balance between analyzing parts and considering broader contexts, and the centrality of developing capabilities. Daily reflections and practical lesson design activities help teachers engage in metacognitive analysis of their experiences, strengthening their capacity to link theory with practice.
By the conclusion of this module, teachers have practiced creating lessons that prioritize conceptual understanding, capabilities development, and a diversity of methods beyond rote learning. They collaborate in small groups to design lessons for their own subjects and levels, with some groups evolving into lasting teacher networks. During the second academic term, teachers continue refining their lesson plans, becoming more intentional about aligning methods with learning objectives and addressing obstacles to student engagement, even extending their understanding of students’ lives beyond the classroom. The main outcome of Module 2 is a shift in teachers’ attitudes and mental models, as they move from focusing on transmitting information to enabling students to understand and to apply and integrate learning into their personal and social lives.
